Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking an on-site Field Inspector to support the CEI team across multiple project locations. You will inspect roadway, bridges, drainage, erosion control, and maintenance/traffic activities, ensuring conformance to plans, specs and provisions.

The role requires strong reading of plans, calculations, and proactive communication with supervision. The position emphasizes limited supervision, travel (20–40%), and ongoing work at various project sites with a pathway to long-term

Qualifications

• Must have strong communication in English (spoken and written).
• Basic arithmetic and reading of measurements.
• Proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook or similar tools.
• Willingness to learn new technologies.
• Extensive knowledge of highway construction materials, methods, and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex and routine inspections to ensure materials and methods meet plans and specs.
• Use high-grade equipment and perform advanced calculations for inspections.
• Work under supervision appropriate to knowledge level.
• Review drawings to prepare for inspections.
• Document inspection results and communicate findings to supervisor.
