Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems LLC is seeking a Fiber Optics Manufacturing Engineer to develop, scale, and optimize manufacturing processes for fiber optic cables and assemblies. You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams across development, design, quality, and production to transition products from development into reliable production.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Optical Engineering or equivalent.
• 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience developing or improving fiber optic, optical, cable assembly, or precision manufacturing processes.
• Experience with fiber optic manufacturing, cable assembly, optical fiber handling, splicing, testing, or related precision processes.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing process development, process control, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, RCCA, DOE, SPC, process capability, or other structured problem-solving methodologies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to use data to drive improvements.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop, standardize, and improve fiber optic manufacturing processes.
• Transition products from R&D to repeatable production.
• Develop and qualify processes for fiber optic cables and assemblies balancing quality, performance, throughput, cost, and rate.
• Develop tooling, fixtures, and workstations for repeatable production while protecting components.
• Apply Design for Manufacturing principles to ensure producibility at scale.
• Create and maintain process controls, SOPs, flow diagrams, and PFMEAs.
• Provide hands-on support and training to production personnel.
