Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Fiber Optics Manufacturing Engineer to develop, scale, and continuously improve manufacturing processes for fiber optic cables and assemblies. You will work with cross-functional teams to transition products from development to repeatable production across Devens, MA and Somerville, MA.

The role emphasizes DFM/ DFA, process controls, tooling, and robust documentation while maintaining high quality and safety.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years in manufacturing engineering, with fiber optic or precision assembly focus.
• Experience with lean, RCCA, DOE and SPC methods.
• Strong ability to analyze data and drive improvements.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize fiber optic manufacturing processes and controls.
• Collaborate with design to ensure manufacturability at scale.
• Create documentation: SOPs, process flow diagrams, pFMEAs and control plans.
• Lead root-cause analysis and continuous improvement projects.
• Define process parameters and acceptance criteria for critical fiber optics.
• Support capacity planning and equipment needs for scaling.
• Ensure safety, quality, and production requirements are met.
