Job summary
Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Fiber Optics Manufacturing Engineer to scale and continuously improve manufacturing for fiber optic cables and assemblies across Devens, MA and Somerville, MA. You will partner with specialists, production techs, design engineering, quality, test, and supply chain to turn development into robust, high-yield production.
The role requires hands-on expertise in fiber optic processes, design for manufacturing, and strong problem-solving.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Industrial/Optical Engineering or equivalent.
- 5+ years in manufacturing engineering, esp. fiber optic or precision assembly processes.
- Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, RCCA, DOE, SPC and structured problem-solving.
Responsibilities
- Develop, standardize, and improve fiber optic manufacturing processes.
- Transition fiber optic products from R&D to repeatable production.
- Establish process controls, inspection methods, and process documentation.
- Collaborate with Design, Quality, Test, and Production teams.
- Lead continuous improvement and RCCA projects to boost yield and reduce scrap.
- Provide hands-on guidance and training to production staff.
