Job summary

Fervo is building cost-effective, repeatable geothermal power plant infrastructure and seeks a Senior Telecommunications Engineer to own the physical network program, including outside-plant and inside-plant fiber, cabling, and records. Qualifications

• Seven or more years of relevant telecommunications infrastructure experience.
• Experience using a fiber management system or GIS as the authoritative record for strand inventory, splice documentation, and field reconciliation.
• Working knowledge of TIA and BICSI practices and installation codes; translate requirements into physical designs.
• Ability to interpret OTDR traces, optical loss measurements, and copper cabling certification reports; troubleshoot field faults.
• Experience developing bid packages, managing contractors, and enforcing documentation and closeout.
• Degree in engineering or related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Own the authoritative fiber management system and GIS records: strand allocation, dark fiber, splice schematics and enclosures, conduit occupancy, and routes.
• Build the infrastructure records program; select tools and establish a verified baseline; maintain copper identifiers, outlets, patch-panel ports, racks, and connectivity.
• Require contractor as-builts within 10 business days of construction; gate closeout and payments on delivery and ingestion of as-builts and test results.
• Document splices, reroutes, strand reassignments, cable additions, and patching changes through change control; treat undocumented changes as defects.
• Reconcile records against physical infrastructure annually and after major projects; track discrepancies and remediation.
• Design shared OSP and ISP fiber and structured copper infrastructure; plan capacity, routes, and future expansion.
• Prepare route drawings, schedules, splice plans, budgets, and construction specs using GIS and CAD tools.
• Define telecommunication requirements for conduits, ducts, and rooms; coordinate with civil, electrical, and facilities teams.
• Plan physical connectivity for access points and sensing endpoints; coordinate with RF design team for placement.
• Establish cabling standards for capacity, labeling, and testing; coordinate AP placement with RF team.
• Translate sensing requirements into fiber specifications; support installation and troubleshooting; sensing team owns validation.
• Develop bid packages and oversee contractors through construction and closeout.
• Review OTDR traces, loss results, and copper certification; require correction and retesting before acceptance.
• Diagnose physical faults and coordinate field work; ensure safety and change-control processes.
