Job summary

Mid-States Design & Engineering (MDE) in Nevada, Iowa, seeks an experienced facility designer to lead complex layout, develop PFDs/GA drawings, and integrate material handling equipment into site layouts, balancing constraints, codes, and budgets. You will mentor designers and own project scope, schedule, and budget.

You will review designs for safety and lifecycle cost, ensure code compliance, and participate in customer reviews and EOR coordination; travel up to 15% to sites and partner

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or higher in drafting, design, engineering technology or related field.
• 6+ years of facility, plant, or site design experience in grain, bulk handling, or industrial settings.
• Proficiency in Revit and strong layout, planning, and equipment arrangement judgment.
• Experience mentoring designers and owning scope, schedule, and budget on projects.
• Willing to travel up to 15% to customer sites and partner offices.
• Equipment commissioning/startup experience (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Lead complex facility layout and develop PFDs and GA drawings with equipment placement and access.
• Integrate Mid-States equipment into site layouts coordinating with Engineering Lead.
• Balance site constraints, customer operations, codes, and budget; stand behind decisions.
• Review and sign off GA work before it reaches the Engineer of Record or customer.
• Critique designs for safety, constructability, operability, code compliance, and lifecycle cost.
• Research and ensure compliance with applicable codes, permits, and standards (OSHA, NFPA, etc.).
• Represent facility design in customer reviews and EOR coordination meetings.
• Own design standards; build knowledge base and drive reuse and improvements.
• Mentor and develop the team; lead internal training on layout and process flow.
• Establish and manage design scope, schedule, and budget on assigned projects.
