Job summary

City of Elko is seeking a Building Maintenance Technician to perform a range of skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled tasks across City buildings. The role includes regular inspections of facilities and adherence to safety standards to protect staff and the public.

The position requires operating hand and power tools, assisting with plumbing and electrical systems, HVAC maintenance, and routine site upkeep such as snow removal and gutter cleaning.

Qualifications

• One year of building maintenance and janitorial experience.
• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
• Possession of, or the ability to obtain, an appropriate valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Perform semi-skilled interior and exterior building maintenance and repairs.
• Inspect City facilities for compliance with maintenance and safety standards and report issues.
• Operate a wide variety of power and hand tools to perform tasks.
• Assist in plumbing systems maintenance and repair (faucets, sinks, toilets, water heaters).
• Assist in checks, service, installation or repair of electrical wiring, switches, motors, generators, lighting systems and related components.
• Assist in checks and maintenance of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment.
• Check fire extinguishers and emergency exit lighting.
• Open/close facilities; lock/unlock as required.
• Clean rain gutters and sweep roofs, sidewalks; shovel snow and apply ice melt.
• Inspect and maintain assigned equipment and small tools.
• Follow all applicable safety rules and regulations.
