Job summary

The Jackson Laboratory seeks a Senior Facilities Mechanical Engineer to lead advanced mechanical engineering planning, design, project management, and operational support across its biomedical research campuses. The role covers HVAC, steam, chilled water, and lab ventilation systems, and drives energy efficiency initiatives for complex vivaria environments.

You will oversee tenant improvements and new construction, manage budgets and consultants, ensure IBC/NFPA/OSHA compliance, mentor staff,

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
10+ years of mechanical engineering and project management experience in critical infrastructure environments.
Strong communication and collaboration skills with diverse stakeholders.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit, MS Project, Trimble Construct (or similar).

Responsibilities

Designs HVAC, hydronics, steam, chilled water, process gases, and lab/vivaria ventilation and control systems.
Develops and oversees energy efficiency projects and feasibility studies.
Performs system modeling and commissioning oversight.
Supports vivarium and BSL1/BSL2 environments with specialized mechanical systems.
Leads major tenant improvements, relocations, and new construction from initiation through closeout.
Manages project budgets, bidding, vendor selection, and contract negotiations.
Ensures compliance with IBC, NFPA, OSHA and industry standards.
Mentors junior staff and collaborates with Facilities Operations to optimize performance.
