Job summary

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. is seeking a skilled machinist for second shift to design and fabricate metal parts, tooling and jigs with precision.

The role involves working from blueprints, building fixtures, and operating mills, lathes and drilling equipment, all while maintaining safety and quality standards. The position requires an associate or technical training and several years of fabrication experience, including welding and use of aircraft fasteners.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires an associate's degree, technical/trade training or equivalent, with three or more years of fabrication experience.
  • Must read and understand blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Ability to perform complex tasks with minimal direction and exercise independent judgment.
  • Knowledge of AN and MS fasteners, AN plumbing and aircraft riveting tools and procedures.
  • Willingness to work second shift and extended hours as required.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and builds production tooling for fabricated parts.
  • Performs prototype fabrication from visual descriptions or sketches.
  • Forms sheet metal parts using machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Runs manual mills, lathes, drill presses and grinding equipment to perform turning and boring.
  • Sets up and operates engine lathes for close-tolerance production machining.
  • Performs welding, fitting and soldering on thin metals.
  • Interprets blueprints and drawings to determine dimensions and setup.
  • Contributes to safe operations and compliance with company policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
