Job summary

Canoo is seeking a Senior Motor Controls Developer to design and implement algorithms for traction motor drives and associated control software. You will work within a seasoned team to advance IPM, SPM, and IM motor control strategies, validating through dyno, bench tests, and vehicle integration.

The role requires hands-on experience with field-oriented control, PWM, and automotive MISRA C coding, plus collaboration with suppliers and cross-functional teams in an on-site environment.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering.
• Strong knowledge of traction inverter drives and electric motors (IPM, SPM, IM).
• Hands-on experience with field-oriented control for PM/IM.
• Experience with PWM schemes and modulation techniques.
• C/C++ in automotive environments (MISRA) and test/validation workflows.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, implement, and verify motor control algorithms for IPM, SPM, and IM.
• Specify and develop requirements for the motor controller.
• Test motor control algorithms on dyno and vehicle.
• Document development steps and testing results; integrate docs in tools.
• Provide guidance on advanced motor control topics to the team.
• Develop/adjust validation plans for traction motor controls software.
• Support other systems requiring motor controls expertise (powertrain, inverter).
• Interact with vendors, suppliers, and customers as needed.
• Up to 25% domestic travel.
