Job summary

Shawmut Design and Construction, a 100% employee-owned firm, is seeking a Senior Estimator in New York to lead complex estimating efforts for large commercial projects. You will partner with the operations team to shape budgets, bid strategies, and risk assessments across trades, including Civil, Structural, and MEP.

The role emphasizes conceptual estimating, budgeting, and GMP development, with a strong expectation for independent work and team collaboration in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 7 to 10+ years’ estimating experience.
• Expertise Core & Shell, Base Building and Interiors Estimating.
• Experience with large commercial, hospitality, mid‑rise/mixed use projects.
• Estimating all trades including Civil/Structural & MEP.
• Conceptual estimating and budgeting experience.
• Self-starter able to work independently or in a team.
• Deep knowledge of scope, timelines, and typical exposures.

Responsibilities

• Plan the job with operations team before project initiation (including general conditions, procurement schedule, logistics).
• Develop project strategy understanding and apply it to estimating process.
• Provide qualitative and quantitative document analysis from estimates.
• Prepare GMPs and present Budget Development from Concept to CD.
• Capture owner/architect requirements with minimal information.
• Review bid documents and assess project risks.
• Establish pre-construction budget and manage related funds.
• Prepare comprehensive bid packages and distribute to trades.
• Coordinate with SDC Self Perform Division for revenue opportunities.
• Ensure best bids for each trades based on project needs.
