Job summary

DEW Construction is seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team. The Senior Estimator will plan, manage/coordinate and estimate projects, with support from other estimators as needed.

The role focuses on understanding customer needs, relationship building, and generating subcontractor interest, while preparing thorough scopes and robust estimates. This position requires using historical data, evaluating options, and applying best practices in cost control and scheduling.

Qualifications

• 4‑year engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience
• Minimum 10+ years of estimating and cost control management experience.
• CPM conceptual scheduling skills
• Familiar estimating projects of varying size; $100,000 to $75+MM.
• Experience with estimating software: Timberline, On‑Screen Take‑off, Building Connected, etc.
• Extensive knowledge of corporate construction procedures, estimating techniques, all engineering disciplines, cost control systems, and QA/QC.
• Advanced math and computer skills
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

Responsibilities

• Interpret specifications, drawings and attend pre‑bid meetings to determine the scope of work and required contents of estimates.
• Investigate site conditions before bidding, identifying waste areas and dumpsites.
• Identify risks and strategies to mitigate.
• Develop self‑performed scopes and review with General Superintendent when required.
• Review design options and recommend best solution based on cost and quality.
• Use historical unit price and productivity data.
• Incorporate historical data from PO’s, subcontracts, productivity reports into unit and man hour figures.
• Determine and understand critical path schedule and sequence of work.
• Investigate value engineering options.
• Prepare estimates by complete takeoffs and pricing items.
• Review terms and conditions of subcontractor/vendor quotes; liaise with subs during bidding.
• Maintain files of working documents and price data from suppliers.
• Review pricing with Director of Estimating and pre‑construction team.
• Provide technical support to personnel preparing estimates for assigned trades.
• Establish budgets.
• Participate in client presentations if required.
• Visit project sites to observe construction methods.
• Maintain working documents and data to back up estimates.
• Maintain skills for software tools and technology utilized.
• Participate in hand‑off meetings; attend meetings with supplies and subs as needed.
• Communicate and reinforce company vision, values, and goals.
• Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.
