Job summary

Liberty Mutual is seeking an equipment breakdown underwriter to help build a fast-growing book of business. You will develop, grow and maintain a profitable portfolio through marketing, underwriting decisions, and strong agent relationships, with a leadership presence and use of underwriting tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree plus 2–7 years of relevant underwriting experience; CPCU or professional designation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Risk selection: Review, rate and underwrite business applying for insurance. Qualify accounts, identify and assess risk, and determine premium, terms and conditions.
• Agent/broker relationships: Respond quickly and stay focused on what agents and brokers need. Build strong, lasting relationships through responsive service, site visits, in-person renewal meetings and a deep understanding of their customers' businesses.
• Portfolio management: Manage your book of business by analyzing the portfolio, spotting opportunities for growth, profit and diversification, and executing marketing plans — including broker calls — to grow market share.
• Documenting the deal: Document files clearly, showing solid thinking and decision-making through comprehensive account reviews, sign-offs and referrals. Follow state regulations, letter-of-authority requirements and underwriting guidelines.
• Leadership: Mentor and coach underwriters and account analysts, both formally and informally, on technical and professional skills.
• Continuous improvement: Take part in problem-solving activities and use continuous-improvement tools to support your team's work.
