Job summary

Liberty Mutual Insurance is seeking an experienced equipment breakdown underwriter to help build a fast-growing business. You will develop, grow and maintain a profitable book of business through marketing, underwriting decisions, and strong agent relationships.

You will mentor less experienced underwriters and contribute to team leadership. Candidates may be considered at underwriter or senior underwriter level depending on experience, with opportunities to lead and grow this line of business

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent; 2–7 years in insurance underwriting.
• CPCU or professional designation preferred.
• Strong knowledge of pricing, risk selection, and reinsurance.
• Ability to build agent/broker relationships.

Responsibilities

• Risk selection: Review, rate and underwrite business applying for insurance. Qualify accounts, identify and assess risk, and determine premium, terms and conditions. Get approvals, present proposals to agents and brokers, and negotiate deals successfully.
• Agent/broker relationships: Respond quickly and stay focused on what agents and brokers need. Build strong, lasting relationships through responsive service, site visits, in-person renewal meetings and a deep understanding of their customers' businesses. Grow your personal brand to build a long-term, high-quality pipeline with agents and brokers.
• Portfolio management: Manage your book of business by analyzing the portfolio, spotting opportunities for growth, profit and diversification, and executing marketing plans — including broker calls — to grow market share.
• Documenting the deal: Document files clearly, showing solid thinking and decision-making through comprehensive account reviews, sign-offs and referrals. Follow state regulations, letter-of-authority requirements and underwriting guidelines.
• Leadership: Mentor and coach underwriters and account analysts, both formally and informally, on technical and professional skills.
• Continuous improvement: Take part in problem-solving activities and use continuous-improvement tools to support your team's work.
