Job summary

Rutgers University-Newark is seeking a Senior EOF Counselor to support academic achievement for first-generation college students. You will manage an assigned caseload, provide counseling on academics, career planning, and financial aid, and liaise with multiple campus offices to promote retention and graduation.

The role includes teaching during the summer bridge and academic year, developing supportive programs, and outreach to external partners.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field.
  • Two years experience with students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Expert knowledge of non-traditional college students with ability to provide academic and affective support.
  • Experience developing and conducting academic support workshops with strong writing, analytical and presentation skills.
  • Experience working with diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to assess program participants per EOF guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Assists program development and implementation of the EOF Program to promote academic achievement and graduation for an assigned caseload.
  • Provides orientation to campus culture, counseling on academic, career, financial aid, and personal matters.
  • Acts as liaison with faculty, advisors, residence life, student life, financial aid, registrar, admissions, Learning Resource and Writing Centers, and other programs.
  • Develops and administers special projects for the summer program’s academic component and EOF populations.
  • Conducts outreach to outside community constituents, agencies, and schools on behalf of EOF students.
  • Teaches a credit-bearing course during the summer bridge program and academic year focusing on strategies for academic success.
