Santa Barbara Infrared, Inc. designs and manufactures advanced EO/IR test instrumentation for military, commercial, and research applications.

The Senior EO/IR Systems Engineer will define, design, and analyze test systems, support product integration, characterization, and verification, and lead on-site installation and training. The role demands a deep grounding in optics and EO/IR sensing, plus extensive experience in system requirements, modeling, and leadership of hardware development

Qualifications

• BS/BA in physics, engineering, or related technical field.
• 10+ years in electro-optics, infrared systems, or related field; advanced degree may count towards experience.
• Foundations in optics, sensors, EO/IR sensing systems for ground/air/space.
• Experience with modeling, simulation, and analysis.
• Systems engineering on EO/IR hardware development; requirements, trade studies, FMEA/CR, lifecycle support, test plans.
• Labs with optical test equipment and components for active/passive systems.
• Experience developing optical error budgets.
• Ability to set priorities and organize projects.
• Strong communication of system requirements, testing needs, and design concepts.
• Willingness to travel 5-15%.

Responsibilities

• Develops product architecture and system requirements for EO/IR test systems.
• Performs performance modeling and trade studies to support product development.
• Collaborates with electrical, mechanical, and software teams on new and sustaining products.
• Guides process flow and documentation for efficient development.
• Develops test plans/procedures based on system requirements.
• Collects/analyzes test data and calibrates for optimal performance.
• Leads on-site installation, integration, and training at customer facilities.
• Performs troubleshooting and calibration for ongoing programs.
• Supports sales with technical solution identification.
