Job summary

Santa Barbara Infrared, Inc. (SBIR) is seeking a Senior EO/IR Systems Engineer to define, design, and analyze electro-optical test systems as part of core product development.

Reporting to the CTO, you will support integration, characterization, verification and validation of EO/IR sensors and test instruments. SBIR designs and manufactures advanced EO/IR test instrumentation for military, commercial, and research sensor systems, with a high-energy, dynamic culture and frequent collaboration

Qualifications

• BS/BA in physics or engineering is required.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in electro-optics or IR systems or related field; advanced degree may count toward experience.
• Solid foundation in optics, sensors, and EO/IR sensing systems for ground/air/space applications.
• Experience with modeling, simulation, and analysis.
• Systems engineering on EO/IR hardware development: requirements flowdown, trade studies, FMEA/CAR, lifecycle support.
• Laboratory experience with optical test equipment and components for active/passive systems.
• Ability to set priorities, organize projects, and communicate with engineering teams and vendors.

Responsibilities

• Develops product architecture, system requirements, and flowdown for EO/IR test systems.
• Performs system performance modeling and trade studies to support product development.
• Collaborates with electrical, mechanical, and software teams to guide product development.
• Optimizes process flow and documentation with technical team.
• Develops test plans and procedures from system requirements.
• Collects and analyzes test data and calibrates for optimal performance.
• Interfaces with customers during factory acceptance testing and travels 5-15% for on-site work.
• Performs troubleshooting, testing, and calibration.
