Job summary

Rocket Lab is seeking a Senior Algorithm Engineer II for EO/IR image analysis in Long Beach, CA. You will develop and validate advanced image-processing algorithms for space payloads, collaborating with ML, optical design, and space vehicle teams.

You will lead the transition of algorithms into real-time implementations, analyze large EO/IR datasets, and present results to diverse stakeholders, including government customers. U.S. citizenship and security clearances are required.

Qualifications

• Experience designing and optimizing EO/IR image processing algorithms.
• Strong background in computer vision and tracking.
• Proficiency in Python with professional software development.
• Experience with image-system modeling and simulation.
• Ability to obtain and maintain U.S. Government Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and validate EO/IR image processing chains and support their deployment into real-time implementations on space-based sensor payloads.
• Bring understanding of optical sensors to develop modeling and simulation frameworks for mission imagery.
• Use simulation frameworks to synthesize mission imagery for ML training and validation.
• Apply deep learning approaches to detect and track low-SNR objects in EO/IR imagery.
• Collaborate with software/firmware teams to transition algorithms into high-performance real-time implementations.
• Analyze large EO/IR datasets to extract analytics and assess algorithm performance.
• Present results to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including government customers.
