Job summary

Prince George’s County Government’s Department of The Environment seeks an Environmental Planner III to advance solid waste management programs. You will help develop environmental plans and expand recycling and composting across schools, multifamily properties, nonprofits, businesses and events.

Key duties include maintaining reports on waste diversion and permits, assisting with contracts and grants, and representing the division at meetings to advance County recycling policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in urban and regional planning, public administration, economics, business administration, political science, environmental science, public health or other closely related fields.
• A minimum of two (2) years of professional planning/program development experience in environmental planning.
• Possession of a valid state issued driver's license.
• Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may also be considered.

Responsibilities

• Develop environmental plans and programs for solid waste management and expand recycling and composting opportunities across schools, multifamily properties, nonprofits, businesses, and special events.
• Maintain critical reports related to the County’s waste diversion efforts, facility licensing, collection vehicle permits and Source Reduction activities.
• Engage with business/commercial properties to ensure compliance with Recycling Legislation and provide recycling or technical assistance to the businesses in developing recycling or composting programs.
• Represent the Division at meetings with the public and/or with other governmental entities to advance County policies and initiatives on solid waste recycling and composting pertaining to residential/commercial sectors.
• Research and prepare studies and devise plans with cost analysis for introduction of new waste diversion opportunities within the County.
• Plan Special Events to promote and increase recycling rates, including scheduling location, date, time, and outreach materials.
