Job summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Principal Environmental Planner to lead multidisciplinary projects across the Gulf Coast and Southeast. This high-impact leadership role focuses on technical excellence, client success, and mentoring teams while managing regulatory compliance and travel.

Based in the Gulf Coast with distribute remote work, the role offers a competitive salary, ESOP participation, and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of project management in a consulting environment, incl. proposal writing, scheduling, budgets, change management, leading client meetings, directing staff, NEPA documents.
  • Experience developing environmental permit applications and NEPA documents for interstate natural gas facilities regulated by the FERC (preferred) or other agencies.
  • Experience with agencies such as FERC, DOE, USACE, and/or similar state agencies, primarily in the Gulf Coast and surrounding states.
  • Experience with project financials (budgets, forecasting, invoicing).
  • Proven client management and business development (seller-doer).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead projects spanning infrastructure, energy, resilience, and environmental planning efforts.
  • Shape technical approaches and strengthen client relationships.
  • Mentor high-performing teams and ensure regulatory compliance across local, state, and federal rules.
  • Travel periodically throughout the region to support client engagement and project oversight.
