Job summary

NRDC seeks an Attorney to join the Litigation Team in one of its U.S. offices (New York, Washington, Chicago, San Francisco, or Santa Monica).

The attorney will litigate cases for NRDC and outside partners, lead record-review cases in federal or state courts with limited oversight by a Senior Attorney. This role also involves mentoring interns and junior attorneys, developing client and coalition relationships, and contributing to NRDC’s litigation capacity, with occasional travel (5–15%).

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate degree required.
  • Bar admission in the jurisdiction where the applicant intends to practice or willingness to qualify before or during the first year of employment.
  • Minimum 3 to 8 years of post-law school experience with active litigation experience, with 4 years favored.

Responsibilities

  • Litigate NRDC and its partners, including leading record-review cases, drafting complaints and briefs, and negotiating with opposing counsel.
  • Develop oral argument and court presentation skills with oversight by a Senior Attorney.
  • Work within a case team to litigate complex cases with substantial oversight by a Senior Attorney.
  • Develop client, co-counsel, and coalition relationships within NRDC and with outside partners.
  • Research and act as a team-wide resource on cross-cutting litigation issues.
