Job summary

Virginia Department of Health is seeking an Environmental Health Specialist I at the Russell County site to support environmental health programs and service delivery. This entry-level role starts with supervised duties in foods, soils, wells, and shellfish while aiming for credentialing within 18 months.

You will be trained under supervision, with PATH to Environmental Health Specialist Senior upon successful completion, and the position offers full benefits and holidays.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively with the public and partners; proficient in basic computer software.
• Provide services in a professional, courteous manner and present educational programs to adults; use a customer-service oriented approach.
• Time management skills necessary to meet workload demands.
• Knowledge and/experience in assigned environmental health program area.
• Must be able to complete training and obtain credentials (COSE/AOSE/NSSP) within 18 months.
• A valid State Driver's License is required to operate a state vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Support and improve health of Virginians through efficient and effective delivery of services.
• Be trained in VDH soils, food, or shellfish programs and earn credentials within 18 months.
• Position is based at Russell County Health Department in Lebanon, VA and advancement to Environmental Health Specialist Senior after successful completion.
