Job Description:

Occupli is recruiting a Senior Environmental Health and Safety Specialist in the Northeast Coast of Ireland. The role involves providing technical support on Environmental, Health, and Safety programmes, and supporting environmental, health, and safety issues within Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, reporting to the EHS Lead. This is a contract role.

  • Ensure compliance with statutory legislation and internal policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate environmental controls and ensure compliance with IPC license.
  • Maintain records diligently.
  • Conduct chemical-based risk assessments.
  • Assess manufacturing lines for environmental, health, and safety issues.
  • Oversee the risk assessment program.
  • Liaise with external EHS agencies, e.g., EPA, to ensure compliance with all environmental licenses.
  • Coordinate site environmental waste management and drive continuous improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with Battery, WEEE, and Waste Packaging Directives for Europe.
  • Perform risk assessments and implement appropriate control measures.
  • Develop and update EHS control procedures.
  • Develop training programmes on EHS, emphasizing strong communication and coaching skills.
  • Investigate accidents and generate reports, including root cause analysis.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with GMP requirements, SOPs, and controlled documents.
  • Perform additional ad hoc tasks as assigned by the EHS Division Lead.
Requirements

Education/Qualifications:

  • Degree in Science, Engineering, or Health & Safety (Level 8).
  • Postgraduate qualification in Health & Safety (Level 9).

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biosafety industry, with experience working within a regulatory environment.
  • Experience managing EHS teams or initiatives.
  • Experience leading root cause investigations.
  • Attention to detail and strong scientific problem-solving skills, with at least 3-4 years in an Occupational Health and Safety role in manufacturing or process industries.
  • Bio Safety experience.
  • Strategic mindset with foresight into future possibilities.
  • Innovative approach.

Preferred:

  • Previous start-up or biotechnology industry experience.
  • Experience implementing an EHS Management System, including procedures, training, and coaching for compliance.
  • Experience working with regulatory authorities such as Irish Water, H.S.A., and EPA.
