Job summary

3M is seeking a Senior Environmental Engineer to lead environmental compliance efforts for a multi‑facility site in Decatur, AL. The role encompasses data collection, reporting, and implementing systems to ensure adherence to federal and state environmental regulations.

Key duties include coordinating with engineers and leadership to embed compliance in operations, driving program improvements, and providing emergency response support. Domestic travel up to 10% may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or science discipline (completed and verified prior to start).
• Five (5) years of environmental compliance and reporting experience in a private, public, government or military environment.
• Five (5) years of working knowledge of federal and/or state environmental regulations, e.g., RCRA, CWA, CAA, and TSCA.

Responsibilities

• Support environmental compliance program, including data collection, recordkeeping, testing and reporting for chemical and film manufacturing.
• Lead projects to ensure environmental compliance for the site, comprising a chemical plant, film manufacturing plant and WWT operations.
• Implement management systems, programs and processes to ensure durable compliance with local, state, federal and company standards.
• Develop and implement training programs to support compliance.
• Determine opportunities for environmental program improvements and develop strategic plans for improvement.
• Work with appropriate stakeholders to implement changes and track to completion.
• Support site by collaborating with engineers and leaders to ensure compliance requirements are incorporated into, and followed by operations, maintenance, and contractors.
• Support corporate initiatives to create, improve or implement programs driving environmental performance.
• Be on call for live support of emergency response events
