Job summary

Onterris is seeking a Senior Environmental Engineer with NY PE to lead environmental assessment, remediation, and redevelopment projects in New York. You will guide multi-disciplinary teams through investigation, design, and closure, with opportunities for field participation.

The role emphasizes brownfields work, regulatory understanding, and strong communication. Rochester, NY is preferred, with flexibility for other NY locations and periodic travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental, civil, or related engineering from an accredited program.
• 8+ years of environmental engineering/consulting experience, with remediation emphasis.
• Active NY Professional Engineer license.
• Ability to independently perform, direct, and review environmental engineering work.
• Experience across contaminated-site lifecycle: due diligence, ESAs, remediation, and closure.
• Experience with remedial design, cost estimating, and documentation.
• Project management experience with budgets, schedules, and teams.
• Strong regulatory knowledge and cross-jurisdiction applicability.
• Strong writing, communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
• Willingness to travel periodically.

Responsibilities

• Lead environmental assessment, site characterization, remediation, and redevelopment projects through investigation to closure.
• Develop engineering evaluations and remedial designs, including plans, specs, and cost estimates.
• Plan Phase I/II ESAs, field programs, and data evaluation.
• Review civil, structural, and infrastructure plans for environmental implications.
• Manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, subcontractors, and teams; coordinate with clients and regulators.
• Prepare work plans, cost evaluations, and final project documentation.
• Provide technical review, QA/QC, and mentorship to staff.
• Support proposals, fee estimation, and site visits.
