Job summary

Kleinfelder is seeking a Project Level Environmental Professional Engineer or Professional Geologist to work in our Sacramento, CA or Concord, CA offices. Candidates must have a minimum of 6 years environmental experience and be able to take projects from proposal through final reports.

The role involves leading site investigations, remediation projects, client discussions, and collaboration with regulatory agencies, with a focus on safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• 6–10 years of related environmental experience – 8+ years highly preferred.
• BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a BS in Geology or other related discipline (e.g., Geophysics, Hydrogeology, Geochemistry, Environmental Geology, etc.)
• Collaborative spirit and resourcefulness with prompt geological and engineering judgment and decision making
• Motivated self-starter; takes initiative and tackles challenging tasks
• Excellent communication and technical writing skills
• Current PE, PG, or ability to obtain within one year of hire
• Problem-solving mindset; follow procedures and maintain good relations with coworkers, contractors, and clients
• Clear and concise verbal and written communication with moderate to minimal supervision
• Ability to perform physical tasks (bending, kneeling, standing, lifting up to 30 lbs)
• OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hr certification (or ability to obtain)
• Enrollment in medical monitoring program with physicals and drug screens
• Pre-employment background checks and licensure/credential verification
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel regularly

Responsibilities

• Perform task management on site investigation, remedy selection, and remediation projects across Northern California
• Coordinate with and mentor junior staff on projects and tasks
• Lead conversations with private and municipal clients and regulatory agencies
• Prepare and peer review project deliverables including work plans, reports, and presentations
• Guide team in meeting safety and quality standards
• Prepare proposals for small to medium projects with senior staff support
• Review RFPs/RFQs and participate in go/no-go decisions
• Manage small to medium projects under $50,000
• Work independently on field and office tasks under supervision
• Oversee subsurface drilling investigations for soil, groundwater, and vapor assessments
• Ensure quality procedures in sample collection and testing
• Support hydrogeologic analysis and remediation system design
• Prepare designs, reports, and calculations for site assessments and remediation projects
• Supervise surface and subsurface investigations with borings, wells, sampling, and testing
