Job summary

Air Products is seeking a Principal Environmental Engineer to coordinate environmental compliance across California facilities, based in San Francisco. You will lead multi-media programs, develop compliance tools, and train site personnel on permit requirements, with a focus on air and GHG regulation adherence.

The role requires 5–7 years in environmental regulatory compliance, strong CEMS experience, and proficiency with Enablon, SAP, and multiple regulatory portals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or science field – chemical engineering preferred.
• Approximately 5–7 years of environmental regulatory compliance knowledge and experience in all media (air, greenhouse gas (California), water, waste).
• Experience with Federal and California environmental programs; Title V air permit understanding/experience desired.
• Experience with Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS).
• Training experience is desirable, as presenting compliance requirements to facility personnel is crucial.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and regulatory agency systems for compliance/reporting.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve programs across environmental media to follow regulations, permit requirements, and internal policies for assigned California facilities (about 4 plants).
• Develop, maintain and improve environmental compliance tools, monitoring, sampling and testing programs to demonstrate regulatory compliance.
• Direct and train facility personnel in environmental compliance permit and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare and submit environmental compliance reports to local, state, and federal agencies.
• Prepare and submit permit applications and conduct permit negotiations with regulatory agencies.
• Assist in environmental regulatory assessments of projects to define and secure approvals, including permitting strategies and documentation.
• Monitor agency rule-making and analyze emerging regulations for impact on plant operations.
• Sustain and improve compliance assurance tools and efficiency; participate in cross-functional teams.
• Provide data-driven leadership to analyze requirements, identify trends, and develop practical EHS improvements.
• Meet with regulatory agencies and internal audit personnel during inspections to ensure compliance.
