Job summary

Markel Group seeks a Sr. Underwriter in the New York area to underwrite new business and renewals profitably within authority, using underwriting tools and knowledge of state laws.

You will manage agents, price and quote risks, and support complex policies while collaborating with teams to maximize profitability and renewal retention. Requires 3–5+ years of environmental/energy underwriting, strong communication, and relationship-building skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3-5+ years environmental and energy underwriting experience.
• Demonstrated marketing and relationship building skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Four year college degree preferred.
• Technologically fluent; proficient in Word, Outlook, & Excel.
• Up to 25% travel.

Responsibilities

• Able to create tactical sales plans; track results and execute corrective action.
• Accountable for underwriting documentation in systems and adherence to standards.
• Meets/ exceeds new business and renewal underwriting production goals.
• Provide coaching to others as needed.
• Review complex policies for acceptability and quote within guidelines.
