Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking an Environmental Coordinator Senior to lead the implementation of environmental compliance programs across regions, plants, and projects. The role emphasizes technical expertise, planning, problem solving, and strong communication, with 20–40% travel and occasional overnight stays.

Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in an environmental, science, or related discipline.
• Minimum of eight years of environmental experience with an associate degree or six years with a bachelor’s degree.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and implement all environmental activities and policies in the assigned region(s) to ensure compliance with environmental laws, regulations and Company policies, standards, procedures and strategic environmental goals.
• Provide training, instruction and assistance to others on the implementation of environmental requirements and assist in the development of environmental training materials.
• Provide support in the event of a release or discharge of a regulated substance including making agency notifications, arranging contractor support, directing cleanup efforts if necessary and completing follow-up reports with regulatory agencies.
• Promote and enforce safe work practices to safeguard employees, contractors, the general public, and Company facilities.
• Provide support during environmental compliance reviews, Phase I or II environmental site assessments and remediation projects.
• Coordinate and respond to public inquiries regarding environmental matters and communicate environmental compliance issues to internal parties.
• Develop and maintain environmental documents and records in accordance with environmental content management standards.
• Conduct environmental reviews of regional disposal contractors and related facilities and manage contracts.
