Job summary

Liberty Mutual Insurance is expanding its Environmental Claims team and seeks an experienced Environmental Claims Professional to manage high-exposure environmental, pollution, toxic tort, and mass litigation claims within our Commercial Specialty portfolio.

You will own the claim lifecycle from coverage analysis and investigation through litigation management, negotiation, and resolution, serving as the subject-matter expert on pollution and specialty coverage issues while collaborating with

Qualifications

• 5-7 years of commercial casualty claims experience, including environmental or pollution handling.
• Ability to handle complex, litigated matters independently, including coverage analysis, reserving, and settlement.
• Strong command of environmental coverage issues (pollution liability, exclusions, third-party bodily injury).
• Experience managing defense counsel and consultants.
• Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
• All-Lines Adjuster license or ability to obtain/maintain.

Responsibilities

• Own the claim end-to-end: determine coverage, investigate, set reserves, negotiate settlements, and authorize payment.
• Drive litigation strategy and plan for each suit with coverage positions and discovery approach.
• Build the appropriate team with internal and external experts as needed.
• Manage outside counsel and monitor billing to stay aligned with outcomes.
• Protect data and maintain file integrity throughout the claim lifecycle.
• Mentor colleagues and liaise with Underwriting and Reinsurance.
• Monitor legislation and trends affecting pollution and specialty coverages.
• Contribute to special projects shaping team processes.
