Job summary

Liberty Mutual Fire Insurance Co. seeks an experienced environmental casualty claims leader to own complex matters from first notice through resolution.

You will decide coverage, set reserves, negotiate settlements, and guide strategy with internal teams and external counsel. You will drive litigation plans, assemble the right experts, mentor colleagues, and monitor evolving pollution law to adjust claims policies accordingly.

Qualifications

• 5-7 years of commercial casualty claims experience, including environmental or pollution claims handling.
• Proven ability to handle complex litigated matters independently, including coverage analysis, reserving, and settlement negotiation.
• Strong command of environmental coverage issues, such as pollution legal liability, exclusions, and related risk.
• Experience managing defense counsel and consultants.
• Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Experience with mass litigation and/or toxic tort required.
• Ability to obtain/maintain All-Lines Adjuster License.

Responsibilities

• Own the claim end to end. Determine coverage, investigate, assess liability, set reserves, and negotiate settlements.
• Drive litigation strategy. Review pleadings and plans to resolve each suit with clear coverage positions.
• Build the right team for each matter by coordinating Home Office Legal, defense counsel, and consultants.
• Manage outside counsel. Oversee strategy and billing to align with outcomes.
• Protect the claim and data. Maintain financial processing integrity and confidentiality.
• Mentor and partner. Coach colleagues and liaison with Underwriting and Reinsurance.
• Stay ahead of the law. Track legislation and trends affecting pollution coverages.
• Contribute beyond your desk. Participate in special projects shaping team practices.
