Job summary

General Motors seeks a Senior Application Packaging & Modernization Engineer to redefine how we package, test, deploy, and maintain end-user applications enterprise-wide. You will optimize SCCM, Intune, and JAMF usage, drive automation, and scale packaging across Windows, macOS, Linux, and VDI environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
• 6+ years in application packaging, endpoint engineering, endpoint management, client engineering, or related roles.
• Strong hands-on experience packaging and deploying applications on enterprise platforms (SCCM, Intune, JAMF).
• Experience designing deployment campaigns for multiple update frequencies and business criticality.
• Experience building packages with silent install behavior, detection logic, dependency handling, and uninstall support.
• Hands-on experience deploying across Windows, macOS, Linux, and/or VDI in a large enterprise.
• Understanding of deployment rings, pilot validation, change control, and rollback planning.

Responsibilities

• Own the application packaging and deployment engineering strategy as part of the End User Engineering mission.
• Reshape packaging into a modern, agile model with automation and reusable patterns.
• Standardize packaging to enable low-touch, repeatable delivery.
• Package, test, and maintain enterprise apps for SCCM, Intune, JAMF, and similar tools.
• Design deployment campaigns supporting frequent to quarterly release cadences with minimal disruption.
• Develop packaging standards for installation, configuration, updates, patching, uninstall, and rollback.
• Create silent install packages, detection methods, dependency handling, and post-install validation.
• Create phased deployment strategies using pilots, rings, maintenance windows, and controlled production releases.
• Partner with owners, security, and operations to validate readiness and licensing.
• Automate recurring packaging, testing, deployment, and reporting workflows.
• Troubleshoot packaging failures, deployment issues, and endpoint-specific challenges.
• Define and track deployment metrics like success rates, disruption, and remediation outcomes.
• Maintain documentation, runbooks, and guidance for packaged apps.
