Job summary

Scale AI, the data foundation for AI, seeks a Senior/Staff Machine Learning Engineer for the General Agents team. You will design, build, and deploy production-ready AI agents solving high-impact enterprise problems, spanning model and system design to evaluation, deployment, and iteration in real customer environments.

You will implement end-to-end agent architectures, scale across multiple customers, and collaborate with product managers, data annotators, and other engineering teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building and deploying machine learning or AI systems for real-world, production use cases.
• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, AI, or equivalent practical experience.
• Deep understanding of modern LLMs, prompt-, context-, and system-level optimization, and agentic system design.
• Proficiency in Python, including production-quality, testable, maintainable code.
• Experience integrating models with external tools, APIs, databases, and services.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement end-to-end agent systems combining LLM reasoning, tool use, memory, and control logic for enterprise use cases.
• Build scalable agent architectures deployable across many customers with varying data and tools.
• Develop evaluation frameworks, datasets, environments, and metrics for production agent performance and business impact.
• Collaborate with product managers, customers, data annotators, and other engineering teams to translate requirements into robust designs.
• Productionize frontier agent techniques (planning, multi-step reasoning, tool-use, multi-agent patterns) into maintainable systems.
• Own deployment, monitoring, and iteration of agent systems with failure analysis and continuous improvement.
• Contribute to technical direction for general agent development practices with increasing leadership at Staff level.
