Senior Engineering Technician – Project Design & Field Lead

Job summary

The City of Fresno invites applications for a Senior Engineering Technician in the Public Works Department. The role performs complex engineering work, leads support staff, and manages design tasks for capital improvement projects such as streets, traffic signals, ITS, and water/sewer systems.

The candidate should have strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and excellent oral and written communication skills. Field work on job sites is expected in all weather conditions.

Qualifications

• 24 college units in engineering, geometry, trigonometry, drafting, surveying, or related field.
• 2 years of experience equivalent to Engineering Technician II with the City of Fresno.
• Three years of escalating responsible experience in construction or technical engineering work is required for qualification with experience; four years if qualifying with experience only.
• Possession of a valid Driver's License at appointment and maintain it during employment.
• Applicants may need to provide the driving record.
• Eligibles must pass a Department interview and DOJ fingerprinting.

Responsibilities

• Perform project design and project management for capital improvement projects including streets, traffic signals, ITS, water, wastewater and recycled water systems.
• Provide lead direction to support staff and coordinate with survey staff for easements and property rights.
• Prepare construction plans and specifications and provide construction support.
