Job summary

North Wind Services LLC seeks an Engineering Technician V to support the National Ignition Facility at LLNL. You will perform installation/removal of diagnostic hardware, manage large optics, and maintain vacuum and mechanical subsystems in a cryogenic, radiologically controlled environment.

The role requires strong mechanical aptitude, teamwork, and the ability to work 3/12-4/12 shifts with on-call overtime. A DOE Q clearance is required upon appointment.

Qualifications

• AA in Mechanical or Electrical Technologies or 4+ years of related education/experience or military experience with mechanical/vacuum systems.
• Knowledge of mechanical maintenance practices including plumbing, hardware and electrical aspects of vacuum systems.
• Ability to learn or background with computer control and data acquisition systems or similar large systems.
• Experience working in a team environment and strong communication skills.
• Detail oriented and able to follow written procedures and safety rules.
• Must obtain and maintain DOE Q Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Provide mechanical support for assembly, installation, operation, repair and maintenance of NIF mechanical systems.
• Install, align, test and document diagnostics in support of shot operations.
• Install and remove NIF Final Optics assemblies up to 70 lbs.
• Follow written procedures and safety practices during all assignments.
• Operate equipment via GUI; handle radiologically contaminated components and use respirators as required.
