Job summary

athenahealth is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager for the athenaPatient Platform in Austin, TX. You will lead 10–12 engineers, drive delivery across web, iOS, and Android, and collaborate with product, UX, security, and architecture teams in a regulated healthcare environment.

You will shape engineering practices, staffing, and operating norms while advancing AI-assisted development and incident learnings. This role blends people leadership with technical partnership.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of people management experience in software engineering.
• Experience owning hiring, performance management, coaching, and team structure decisions.
• Proven record of leading product delivery teams and delivering measurable outcomes.
• Experience working across product, design/UX, architecture, and partner engineering teams.
• Exposure to AI-assisted development or developer productivity tools is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Own engineering delivery across all teams or pods, including prioritization and staffing.
• Coach engineers and peers through feedback, technical discussion, and leadership.
• Partner with product, UX, architecture, security, and other leaders to align priorities.
• Define and track engineering excellence metrics (delivery, quality, team health).
• Support adoption of AI-assisted development practices within the organization.
