Job summary

athenahealth is seeking a senior engineering leader to oversee two software teams focused on patient payment workflows within the athenaCollector product. Based in Boston, this hybrid role offers influence over product delivery, team growth, and technical execution in a collaborative environment.

You will guide decisions across OO languages, relational databases, and modern JS frameworks, while driving improvements in reliability, customer experience, and engineering efficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years in engineering leadership delivering, developing, and executing.
• 5+ years in product design and development.
• Experience in payment processing or complex real-time systems is advantageous.
• Experience with OO programming languages.
• Experience with relational databases.
• Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks and related technologies.
• Experience with enterprise monolith applications and cloud-based enterprise applications.
• Proven ability to lead teams and work with cross-functional stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead two software engineering teams delivering payment-related features and platform enhancements.
• Collaborate with product management, design, quality engineering, and other stakeholders to define priorities and deliver outcomes.
• Guide technical decision-making across OO languages, relational databases, and modern frameworks in monolith and cloud environments.
• Drive product development and design efforts to improve customer experience, reliability, and efficiency.
• Manage execution across multiple priorities with timely delivery and quality.
• Develop team members through coaching, feedback, and growth opportunities.
• Build a healthy team environment by understanding team needs and removing obstacles.
• Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to communicate status and dependencies.
• Evaluate engineering processes and recommend improvements for planning and delivery.
