Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Santa Ana, CA, is seeking a senior project manager to lead teams of engineers, designers, estimators, controls and scheduling professionals in the design, modification and analysis of high voltage substations.

The successful candidate will hold a BS from an ABET‑accredited program and a PE license, with 20+ years in HV project delivery, including scopes of work, design basis, equipment selection and calculations. This hybrid-role offers competitive compensation and benefits.

Qualifications

• BS from an ABET-accredited program is required.
• PE license and advanced management degree or certification preferred.
• 20+ years in design engineering and/or management of HV utility projects.
• Experience with NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEC, IEEE and ANSI standards.
• Experience managing scopes of work, design basis, equipment selection and specs.

Responsibilities

• Lead project teams of engineers, designers, estimators and schedulers for HV substations.
• Oversee scopes of work, design basis, equipment selection and calculations.
• Serve as liaison with clients and manage proposals and risk reviews.

This position allows for a hybrid work schedule with a mix of work spent in office and working remote from home.

This position will offer you the opportunity to manage project team(s) consisting of engineers, designers, estimators, controls and scheduling professionals involved in the design, modification, and analysis of new and existing high voltage substations.

Essential Skills And Experience

• This position requires a BS preferably from an ABET-accredited program.
• An advanced management/business degree or certification is preferred.
• PE license.
• Specific experience in Project Management of Utility Transmission, Substation or Energy Projects.
• Knowledge of engineering standards including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEC, IEEE and ANSI.
• 20 or more years experience in the design engineering and/or management of high voltage utility type projects. Experience should include preparation, oversite or management of scopes of work, development of conceptual layouts, determination of design basis, the selection of equipment and materials, and the preparation and assembling of calculations and specifications.
• Experience in execution of projects in multiple contract arrangements including EPC, Owners Engineer, Traditional or Joint Ventures a plus.
• Experience with serving as firm/client liaison in a support, engineer or management role.
• Excellent written and verbal communications a must. Experience in writing proposals.
• Experience in cost allocation and control, estimating, proposal preparation, risk assessment programs and techniques.

Valued But Not Required Skills And Experience

• PMP Certification.
• Construction and start-up experience a plus.
• Commissioning experience a plus.

Compensation Range

$165,610 - $253,015
