Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an experienced project manager for high voltage substations. You will lead electrical design teams across engineering, procurement, and construction phases, ensuring high quality outcomes. The role requires strong client liaison, reporting, and adherence to global electrical standards.

The position supports a hybrid work arrangement with in-office presence required three days per week, and invites candidates with 10+ years in HV project leadership to apply.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Advanced management degree or certification is preferred.
  • PE license required.
  • Experience managing Utility Transmission, Substation or Energy projects.
  • Knowledge of NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEC, IEEE and ANSI standards.
  • 10+ years in design engineering or management of HV utility projects.
  • Experience with EPC, Owners Engineer, Traditional or JV contract models.
  • Experience liaising with clients or firms in a management role.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; experience writing proposals.
  • Experience with cost allocation, estimating, proposals, risk assessment and related techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the Electrical team lead in coordinating detailed design phases.
  • Lead efforts to ensure on-time, high-quality project delivery within budget.
  • Coordinate design activities to meet specifications, codes, and client requirements.
  • Prepare reports and studies in clear, concise formats per Sargent & Lundy standards.
  • Perform independent reviews of work, scopes, proposals, procurement specs, and contracts.

Job description

This position will offer you the opportunity to manage project team(s) consisting of engineers, designers, estimators, controls and scheduling professionals involved in the design, modification, and analysis of new and existing high voltage substations.

  • You will work on challenging assignments from individual projects, large projects, major programs, to large scale engineering only, Engineer Procure and EPC projects.
  • Direct the Electrical team lead in the coordination of detailed design phases for all aspects of electrical engineering work.
  • Lead efforts to ensure projects are completed satisfactorily, with high quality, on time performance and to strict financial requirements.
  • Coordinate systems design activities to ensure installation and operations will comply with specifications, codes, and client requirements.
  • Prepare reports and studies that present technical information in a clear and concise manner, and meet client requirements and Sargent & Lundy formats.
  • Perform and provide independent reviews of work performed by others, including scopes of work, proposals, procurement specifications, and contract documents.
This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week.

Essential Skills And Experience
  • This position requires a BS preferably from an ABET-accredited program.
  • An advanced management/business degree or certification is preferred.
  • PE license.
  • Specific experience in Project Management of Utility Transmission, Substation or Energy Projects.
  • Knowledge of engineering standards including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEC, IEEE and ANSI.
  • 10 or more years of experience in the design engineering and/or management of high voltage utility type projects. Experience should include preparation, oversite or management of scopes of work, development of conceptual layouts, determination of design basis, the selection of equipment and materials, and the preparation and assembling of calculations and specifications.
  • Experience in execution of projects in multiple contract arrangements including EPC, Owners Engineer, Traditional or Joint Ventures a plus.
  • Experience with serving as firm/client liaison in a support, engineer or management role.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications a must. Experience in writing proposals.
  • Experience in cost allocation and control, estimating, proposal preparation, risk assessment programs and techniques.
Valued But Not Required Skills And Experience
  • PMP Certification.
  • Construction and start-up experience a plus.
  • Commissioning experience a plus.

Compensation Range
$165,610 - $253,015
