Job summary

Obviant is hiring a Senior Engineering Manager in the DC metro area to own one team end-to-end, either data engineering or product/web app. You will inherit an existing team, set the technical bar, establish delivery cadence, and grow engineers while staying close to the code.

We demand high standards: decisions based on quality, not slogans. You will partner with Product and GTM, translate business goals into engineering outcomes, and lead with candor and spine in a fast-moving startup

Qualifications

• 7+ years of engineering leadership experience.
• Proven ability to own delivery for a team with planning and estimation.
• Strong communication across leadership, engineers, and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience with data/AI systems is a plus.
• Background in government or defense tech is advantageous.
• Experience with platform-level infrastructure is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction and maintain high delivery standards.
• Grow and mentor engineers, conducting regular feedback and leveling conversations.
• Own team cadence, architecture, and quality without bottlenecks.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and GTM to align engineering outcomes.
• Maintain transparency and health metrics, avoiding silos.
