Job summary

Slack is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Core Services team to steer the design and delivery of edge caches, realtime services, and data residency initiatives at massive scale.

You will own the technical roadmap, guide a multi-system migration to Loom, and ensure reliability while expanding capacity for global Enterprise customers. Strong backend engineering fundamentals, Go/Java expertise, and leadership across time zones are essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years leading engineering teams for high-scale backend infrastructure.
• Experience with reliability, observability, and performance at scale.
• History of managing Tier 0 / Tier 1 services with on-call ownership.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical direction and roadmap across Core Services including Edge Caches, Realtime Services, EKM, International Data Residency, and Image Proxying.
• Lead multi-system migrations while maintaining full reliability for millions of users.
• Drive delivery with focus on reliability, incident management, and operational excellence.
• Manage on-call operations for Tier 0 services and coordinate across teams.
• Partner with cross-functional stakeholders (Product, Security, Sales, AWS) to align timelines and priorities.
• Represent team in leadership reviews and planning cycles.
