Job summary

Wallace Montgomery is seeking an experienced Structures Engineer to join our Fairfax, VA or Richmond, VA team. You will contribute to multi-disciplinary projects focused on bridge and structural construction documents for Virginia transportation projects, with emphasis on VDOT and local municipalities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in Virginia required.
• Minimum 5 years of bridge design and/or inspection experience.
• Experience with VDOT bridge design guidelines, inspection procedures, and permit review preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare structure and bridge design calculations, plans, and estimates for bridge projects (new designs, rehabilitations, replacements).
• Assist with and/or lead NBIS-compliant Bridge Safety Inspections.
• Perform specialized analyses of overweight truck permits to ensure safe crossing and routing for heavy vehicles.
• Conduct and review structural modeling and analysis using MicroStation, OpenBridge, Brass, LARS Bridge, MDX, and LEAP.
• Collaborate with roadway, drainage, geotechnical, traffic, and environmental staff to deliver integrated solutions.
• Support development of construction documents and specifications.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide quality control/assurance.
• May supervise designers and technicians on routine activities and projects.

Job description

Wallace Montgomery is seeking an experienced Structures Engineer to join our Fairfax, VA or Richmond, VA team. In this role, you will be a part of a multi-disciplinary team developing bridge and structural construction documents for transportation related projects in Virginia, with a focus on Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and other local municipalities. This role will also include functions like assisting with and/or leading bridge safety inspections and supporting specialized analysis of overweight vehicle permits.

Essential Functions:

• Prepare structure and bridge design calculations, plans, and estimates for bridge projects, including new designs, rehabilitations, and replacements.
• Assist with and/or lead NBIS-compliant Bridge Safety Inspections.
• Perform specialized analyses of overweight truck permits to ensure extremely heavy vehicles can safely cross bridges and travel designated routes throughout Maryland.
• Conduct and review structural modeling and analysis using MicroStation, OpenBridge, Brass, LARS Bridge, MDX, and LEAP products.
• Collaborate with roadway, drainage, geotechnical, traffic, and environmental staff to deliver integrated project solutions.
• Support the development of construction documents and specifications.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide quality control/assurance efforts.
• May include supervision of designers and technicians of routine activities and projects.
