Job summary

The City of Leander is seeking a senior civil engineer to review and approve complex site and subdivision plans for drainage, transportation, and utility infrastructure. The role supports planning, design, and construction of city projects and requires coordinating with diverse stakeholders.

Candidates must hold a BS in Civil Engineering and a Texas PE, with at least six years of civil engineering experience and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's of Science in Civil Engineering from an accredited college.
• Minimum of six (6) years of civil engineering experience.
• Licensed in Texas as a Professional Civil Engineer (PE), or able to obtain TX license within six months.
• Valid Driver’s License; approx. 20% driving time in a City vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Review and approve engineering site and subdivision plans, and plats for drainage, transportation, or water/wastewater infrastructure.
• Assist in planning, design, and construction efforts for City infrastructure projects.
• Interact with a wide variety of individuals, companies, and organizations while managing multiple projects under limited supervision.
• Utilize GIS, AutoCAD, and traffic analysis tools as part of daily tasks.

Summary

Performs senior-level engineering duties, including but not limited to, reviewing and approving engineering site and subdivisions plans, and plats for drainage, transportation, or water and wastewater infrastructure. Assists in managing the planning, design, and construction efforts for City infrastructure projects, and regularly interacts with a wide variety of individuals, companies, and organizations. Generally, this position uses complex engineering skills and works under limited supervision, with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

• Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's of Science Degree (B. S.) from an accredited college or university with an engineering degree or a related field of study.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of civil engineering experience.
• Required Certificates and Licenses
  • Licensed in the State of Texas as a Professional Civil Engineer (PE), OR, if licensed in another state, the ability to obtain the State of Texas license within six (6) months of hire.
  • Valid Driver’s License from any U.S. State. (Approximately 20% driving time in a City vehicle.)
• Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with City, State, County, or other governmententities.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible professional traffic and transportation engineering experience.
  • Experience with City of AustinTransportationCriteriaManuals and state and federal transportation design guidelines.
  • Knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
  • Experience reviewing or developing Traffic Studies and Traffic Impact Analyses (TIA).
  • Experience with traffic signal operations, intersection design and corridor analysis.
  • Proficiency in Synchro or other traffic operation software.
  • Experience in crash data analysis and roadway safety countermeasures.
  • Experience in elements of urban roadway and highway design.
  • Knowledge of ADA accessibility standards within the public right-of-way.
  • Experience create and mark up Bluebeam documents
  • Ability to navigate and use GIS interface and tools
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD or other civil engineering numerical modelling software

• Read and interpret technical information from engineering construction plans and plats.
• Demonstrate proficiency in both oral and written communication.
• Manage multiple projects at one time.
• Operate computers using software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and AutoCAD.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
• Gather, compile, analyze, and evaluate a variety of data to make sound decisions as it applies to providing required services.
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with public officials, superiors, subordinates, and the general public.
