Job description

Description

FMI’s Strategy Practice is seeking high-energy, experienced Senior Engagement Managers to join its growing Energy & Power team. As we continue to expand our capabilities and client engagements in this sector, we are looking to add multiple talented professionals to support the team’s continued growth. FMI partners with leading organizations across the built environment to deliver strategic insights, drive growth, and solve complex business challenges.

The Senior Engagement Manager leads client engagements from start to finish, owning delivery timelines, quality, and outcomes while building trusted client relationships that drive renewals and expanded scope. This individual is accountable for engagement-level revenue, client outcomes, and the successful delivery of a multimillion-dollar portfolio of projects.

Operating with autonomy under the direction of a Delivery Principal or Partner, the Senior Engagement Manager provides direct oversight of project teams, including Analysts, Consultants, and Engagement Managers. The role develops and mentors team members, shapes account strategy, secures extensions and new work, and contributes to the growth of the Energy & Power practice.

This is a full-time opportunity with potential locations in Raleigh, NC; Denver, CO; Houston, TX; Tampa, FL; or remote. Travel may reach up to 50%, depending on client needs.

All applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. Visa sponsorship is not available at this time.

Responsibilities

  • Lead client engagements from start to finish, owning delivery timelines, quality, and outcomes; establish project team roles and responsibilities; set workplan priorities and direction; communicate engagement-level milestones; and monitor and adjust work effort and deliverables
  • Provide direct oversight of Analysts, Consultants, and Engagement Managers staffed across the engagement, delivering ongoing coaching and feedback while supporting their development and readiness for advancement
  • Establish project operating and communication cadences, maintaining proactive communication with clients, FMI delivery resources, Delivery Principals, Partners, and other stakeholders
  • Partner with Delivery Principals and Partners on client engagement and account plans based on the workplan, client feedback, and scoping observations; secure alignment on the approach needed to meet contractual scope and the client’s definition of success
  • Lead scoping processes with FMI Partners and clients to define project scope before execution of the workplan contract
  • Drive engagement-level delivery, including executive-level client presentations, meeting facilitation, and high-quality deliverables that support client value realization
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of FMI’s full suite of services and capabilities, recognizing client needs and connecting clients with appropriate internal or external resources
  • Build trusted client relationships through active listening, empathy, sound judgment, and comfort leading conversations and providing feedback with executive-level stakeholders
  • Extend and position new work with existing clients, pursue new leads, and develop workplans for extended or new engagements, with responsibility for closing approximately $300,000 to $400,000 in new work annually
  • Contribute to Energy & Power practice growth through proposal development, speaking events, internal FMI initiatives, thought leadership, and other business development activities

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field required; master’s degree strongly preferred.
  • 8–12 years of consulting experience, including 5 or more years focused specifically on the energy and power industry
  • Direct experience with major capital project program management, such as generation, transmission and distribution, gas transmission, or data centers, required
  • Operational leadership experience within a complex organization, including experience managing individuals and/or cross-functional teams
  • Advanced energy and power industry expertise across multiple client engagements, very strong program management skills, and demonstrated executive presence
  • Strong business acumen, strategic thinking, and demonstrated business development acumen, including the ability to identify, position, and close new work
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, delegate appropriately, develop others, and influence outcomes and behaviors with internal and external stakeholders without formal control
  • Experience driving change and influencing senior and executive leadership
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, facilitation, and listening skills, with comfort leading conversations and providing feedback to executive-level clients
  • Ability to build and maintain strong client relationships and manage multiple deadlines, projects, client needs, and team priorities
  • Demonstrated maturity, integrity, and the ability to perform effectively both independently and as a team leader in an ambiguous environment with minimal supervision
