Job summary

Nexamp is seeking a Lead Energy Storage Engineer to act as the technical SME across development, engineering, procurement, construction, and operations of utility-scale and distributed storage systems. This role requires deep expertise in storage design, safety, and vendor evaluation to ensure safe, bankable, reliable projects.

The position is hybrid and based in Nexamp’s US hubs (Boston, Chicago, New York, or Washington, DC) with leadership reporting to Associate Principal Engineer.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in related energy storage engineering roles.
• At least 5 years direct battery energy storage experience.
• Experience with utility-scale or DG storage design, safety analysis and code compliance.
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or fire protection.

Responsibilities

• Lead evaluations, design reviews, and due diligence for storage projects.
• Act as internal SME on safety and code compliance (NFPA 855, NEC, UL standards).
• Evaluate vendor qualifications, including cell chemistry, BMS, PCS, and thermal management.
• Review architecture, electrical integration, and fire suppression plans.
• Provide guidance on reliability, degradation, and asset management.
