Job summary

Nexamp seeks a Lead Energy Storage Engineer to act as a technical SME supporting development, engineering, procurement, construction, and operation of utility-scale and distributed energy storage. You will drive safety, code compliance, vendor evaluation, and system design across projects.

The role is hybrid and based in our Boston, Chicago, New York, or Washington, DC hubs, reporting to the Associate Principal Engineer.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Fire Protection Engineering.
• 7+ years in related field with 5+ years in battery energy storage systems.
• Experience with utility-scale or DG energy storage design and technical due diligence.
• EIT certification or PE license preferred.
• Experience with AHJ engagement, fire marshal coordination, and permitting.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical evaluations, system design reviews, and engineering due diligence for storage projects.
• Serve as internal subject matter expert on safety, fire protection, and code compliance (NFPA 855, NEC).
• Lead vendor qualification assessments, including cell chemistry, BMS, PCS, and thermal management.
• Review and validate battery storage architecture, electrical integration, thermal management, and safety documentation.
• Provide technical guidance on reliability, degradation, augmentation, and asset management.
• Support cross-functional teams with technical presentations and engineering standards.
