Job summary

Nexamp, a leader in clean energy, seeks a Lead Energy Storage Engineer to advance utility-scale and distributed storage projects across our portfolio. Hybrid role based in Boston, Chicago, New York, or Washington, DC, reporting to the Associate Principal Engineer.

You’ll evaluate designs, ensure safety, and drive performance through lifecycle support. The role requires 7+ years in energy storage with strong knowledge of lithium-ion tech, NFPA 855, NEC, and AHJ coordination.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of related experience, with 5 years in battery energy storage.
• Experience with utility-scale or DG storage design, engineering review, due diligence, safety analysis, and code compliance.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Fire Protection or related engineering field.
• Master’s degree in Engineering preferred.
• EIT certification or PE license preferred.
• AHJ engagement and permitting experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of lithium-ion storage technologies and system integration.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical evaluations, design reviews, and engineering due diligence for utility-scale and distributed battery energy storage projects across development, procurement, construction, and operation.
• Serve as internal subject matter expert on energy storage safety, fire protection, and code compliance, including NFPA 855, NEC, UL 9540/9540A, UL 1973, UL 1741, UL 1642; coordinate with AHJ and permitting teams.
• Lead vendor qualification assessments, including cell chemistry, BMS, PCS, thermal management, and integration architecture; support procurement through spec reviews and audits.
• Review and validate energy storage architecture, electrical integration, thermal management, fire suppression, and OEM documentation.
• Provide guidance on reliability, degradation, augmentation, and long-term asset management.
