Job summary

Summit Consulting, LLC in Washington, DC, seeks an experienced Financial Underwriter to support energy and infrastructure finance work. You will lead due diligence, analyze asset-level financial data, and prepare client-ready underwriting narratives for complex projects.

Ideal candidates have 5–10 years of underwriting experience, strong financial judgment, and excellent technical writing. The role focuses on energy assets, grid modernization, and community-serving infrastructure.

Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, business, public policy, energy policy, engineering, or a similar program.
• Five to seven years of experience in financial underwriting, credit analysis, commercial lending, project finance, infrastructure finance, or similar.
• Ability to independently evaluate complex financial statements, cash flow, credit risk, repayment capacity, and supporting documentation.
• Experience assessing capital budgets, financing assumptions, operating projections, sources and uses of funds, and sponsor financial capacity.
• Working knowledge of energy, utility, or infrastructure asset considerations and long-term financial sustainability.
• Ability to identify, document, and communicate material risks clearly and defensibly.

Responsibilities

• Lead or independently perform financial due diligence for energy, utility, and infrastructure assets.
• Review and interpret financial statements, budgets, debt schedules, capex plans, and asset-level cost documentation.
• Evaluate the financial reasonableness of asset investments, financing structures, revenues, expenses, and repayment capacity.
• Analyze borrower creditworthiness, liquidity, leverage, cash flow, and ability to meet financing obligations.
• Review application materials for completeness and alignment with financing requirements.
• Identify gaps, inconsistencies, and risks; recommend practical paths for resolution.
• Prepare client-ready underwriting narratives, financial summaries, risk assessments, and recommendation materials.
• Review junior staff work for accuracy and provide constructive feedback.
• Monitor a review pipeline and respond to client requests and resubmissions.
• Collaborate with underwriters, analysts, project managers, and stakeholders to apply consistent standards.
• Communicate analysis clearly in oral and written formats to diverse audiences.
