Job summary

Summit Consulting, LLC is seeking an experienced Financial Underwriter in Washington, DC, focused on energy, utility, and infrastructure assets. The role requires 5–10 years of underwriting, credit analysis, and project finance experience to support federal energy and infrastructure finance work.

The candidate will evaluate asset-level financial performance, sponsor capacity, and documentation quality, preparing decision-ready materials for clients and stakeholders while mentoring junior staff

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in finance, accounting, economics, business, or a related field.
• Five to seven years of experience in financial underwriting, credit analysis, project or infrastructure finance.
• Ability to independently evaluate complex financial statements, cash flow, credit risk, and supporting documentation.
• Experience assessing capital budgets, financing assumptions, and operating projections with reasonable underlying assumptions.
• Strong written communication skills to prepare narratives, risk assessments and recommendation materials.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint for schedules and polished deliverables.

Responsibilities

• Lead or independently perform financial due diligence for energy, utility, and infrastructure assets.
• Review and interpret financial statements, budgets, debt schedules, and sources and uses of funds to assess capacity.
• Evaluate reasonableness of asset investments, costs, financing structures, and projected revenues.
• Analyze borrower creditworthiness, liquidity, leverage, cash flow, and ability to meet financing obligations.
• Prepare client-ready underwriting narratives and risk assessments for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Mentor junior analysts, review work products, and support a multi‑assignment pipeline.
