Job summary

Jensen Hughes is seeking a Senior Engineer in Risk Management to lead explosives risk projects for defense, mining, and industrial clients. You will guide hazard analyses, regulatory compliance, and incident investigations, shaping safety programs and standards.

The role emphasizes leadership, technical writing, and cross-disciplinary collaboration, with domestic and international travel as needed to deliver high-stakes safety outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Chemical/Mechanical Engineering, Explosives Engineering, or equivalent; PhD a plus.
• 7+ years of progressive experience in explosives risk management with leadership on PHA teams.
• Deep expertise in NFPA 495, NFPA 660 and related regulatory environments.
• Proven incident investigation and facility design experience with energetic materials.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills; stakeholder influence.
• Experience in high-security or proprietary settings; willingness to travel.

Responsibilities

• Lead Process Hazards Analysis for high-risk operations, using qualitative and quantitative methods.
• Oversee regulatory compliance audits and programs (PSM, DoD, EPA, etc.) for clients.
• Direct D3 operational support, advising on decontamination and demolition approaches.
• Guide civilian and military facility siting and design projects for compliance and safety.
• Spearhead incident investigations with root cause analysis and scenario development.
• Establish and refine explosive safety standards across processing, design and training.
